What is causing these hard white spots under my skin?

I have been getting milia - little hard pearl like spots under the skin. My doctor prescribed Retin-A recently. I would like to know what causes them. They appear on my face, around my eyes, cheeks, chin and upper chest. Any thoughts on what causes them and how to get rid of them?

Hi Karen,

Milia is so frustrating. They are like hard pimples that cannot escape because they are not trapped within a pore. They are actually trapped underneath the skin and have no pore, or "hole" to escape through. You need products, like your retin-a, or another exfoliating product to exfoliate the skin above the milia until the milia is finally released. Check out an article on our website that describes milia and some steps you can take to get rid of them.
