I have been getting milia - little hard pearl like spots under the skin. My doctor prescribed Retin-A recently. I would like to know what causes them. They appear on my face, around my eyes, cheeks, chin and upper chest. Any thoughts on what causes them and how to get rid of them?

Hi Karen,

Milia is so frustrating. They are like hard pimples that cannot escape because they are not trapped within a pore. They are actually trapped underneath the skin and have no pore, or "hole" to escape through. You need products, like your retin-a, or another exfoliating product to exfoliate the skin above the milia until the milia is finally released. I'm turning 28 and thinking of switching to a skincare regimen that is preventative in nature to slow the aging process. I have a slightly oily T zone but other than that my skin tends to be quite dry and irritable. I have noticed some discoloration and some wrinkles under my eyes (which have also gotten darker). Would everything from Eminence be safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding? I'm recovering from major bad acne. I have red marks and scars on one side of my face where my acne used to be. I also have a lot of sun spots. I know I sound like a mess! All this has happened to me in the last 3 years. As I got older (now 32), I've had many issues with aging. Hi Kim,

I was in your exact position when I was pregnant with my son. I had beautiful skin and then all of a sudden, cystic acne on both sides of my face, hyperpigmentation due to the pregnancy and did not look my "30yrs" at all. I used everything and when I was finally introduced to Eminence, the results were amazing. I used Garlic and Tomato Masque and Hungarian Herbal Mud as my treatment.

It sounds rather odd but the thought behind it is Garlic is nature's penicillin, the tomato is full of Vitamin E and Lycopene for fast healing of red, irritated skin. The Lycopene is also amazing for hyperpigmentation, but let's deal with one issue at a time.

The Hungarian Herbal Mud is a cinnamon ball for your face! It contains Paprika, Cinnamon, Sulfur, and Thermal Spring water. This combination draws oxygen into the skin, killing bacteria and the sulfur draws out the impurities while softening and conditioning the skin. This masque will get HOT! This is totally normal. I'm 35 years old and for the past few years have had a lot of problems with acne and some cystic acne that seems to be brought about by stress and my wild hormones.

I have been using Dermalogica Medibac Cleanser but am about to run out. I also use products from a former esthetician including a daily scrub, sulfur soap, 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel, Beta day cream, Glycolic Night Cream, and sometimes Dermalogica oil control lotion. I'm actually going to run out of most of these products soon.

I'm wondering if you can suggest anything that might be better than what I am currently using. My skin is very oily, but it is obviously out of balance as it is also dry in some areas-or better put, not hydrated. I know Obagi is good, but I'm not ready to make a commitment to their entire system. In fact I don't have to stick to 1 system. What products would you recommend?

Hi Amanda,

I truly think you should give Obagi a try - the acne system only has three products in the line and it is extremely effective. Obagi is a physician line of products and the Clenziderm MD system will most likely get your skin back into balance whereas right now it seems to be stripped of any natural moisture you might be making, which is also adding to the over production of oil problem. (i.e. you are oily but dehydrated.)

The kit contains a cleanser, and two treatment products that use both Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide to treat existing acne and prevent future flare-ups.

The Benzoyl Peroxide has been molecularly altered so each molecule is small enough to travel deep within the pore to kill acne-causing bacteria instead of sitting on top of the skin like most over the counter Benzoyl products, which is not as effective and can dry the skin.

Salicylic Acid keeps pores clear of dead skin cells and oil so blackheads can't form. These products are designed for face as well as trouble areas of the body.

Will Yon-ka products irritate Rosacea? I have also tried other products for Rosacea, but they did not help. What do you recommend?
